Who Am I?
My name is Joel, I'm a writer I like to play with words and rhymes Who am I? That makes me anxious But in poem, I'm just fine My friends would say I'm funny Though I'm charming, still a nerd Is that me? This badge of honour Cause to me that's just absurd In the mirror, I seem different Not as confident as portrayed Is that me? This mirrored image Masquerade
My given name, Joel, comes from the Hebrew name, YahEl, which has several meanings including; Johovah/YAHWEH is God, he that wills or commands, closest to God, and strong–willed. A friend of mine likes to call me Jo-El or YahEl because of our love of comics, similar to Kal-El(DC Comics) and Mar-Vell(Marvel Comics).
I am also descendant of the Mongeau family lineage, which is a French surname from a pet form of Monge. According to sevenreflections.com, the name “Mongeau” means; “You have psychic power. You can carry on for others with joy. You have a receptive nature and may bear burdens for others. You are pragmatic, thorough, strong-willed, practical and stubborn at times. You are hard working, often martyr to duty. You like home and security above all.You are frank, methodical and believe in law, system and order. Dependable, very down-to-earth and well grounded, you are always looking for meaningful work, a career where you can take pride in your work and do the best job you are capable of. Your prime desire is to build protected and secure environment at home and at work. You can be very persuasive in achieving goals and gaining objectives. You can be very detailed and well-organized and possess great organizational skills. At times you may appear too stubborn and overly critical to others, but your practical approach to life and productivity makes you one of the most beneficent members of community.”
At times, I also like to use the moniker of Phoenix, as I very much like the meaning of the mystical creature as it symbolizes power, strength, transformation, longevity and renewal. With the English translation of my surname being Mōsher, I often use Phoenix Mōsher as an alias.
But who really is Joel Mongeau or Phoenix Mōsher?
First of all, I am extremely eclectic as you can tell from the wide range of topics in my blog. I like all genres of music, from Classical to Heavy Metal, and all genres of movies, from Comedy to Horror. My favourite sport is hockey, as an enthusiast of the Toronto Maple Leafs and childhood hero, Mario Lemieux, who played for the Pittsburgh Penguins. My preferred styles of video games, are of course, NHL, specifically the General Manager/Franchise Mode, as well as storyline heavy RPGs(Role-Play Games) much like the Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age series. I love to read, with some of my favourite books including; 1984 by George Orwell, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.
I am also a massive nerd, and I don’t just say that to be funny. I immensely enjoy the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as Marvel Comics. Wolverine and Spider-Man are certainly two of my favourite superheroes. I also enjoy DC, though I’m not as familiar with it. I certainly, however, do not subscribe to the Marvel vs DC warfare that seems to be popular. I do very much enjoy the DCTV series; Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, the cancelled Constantine, and the latest addition, Black Lightning. You might think, “How can that be enough to make you a ‘massive’ nerd?” Well, have you heard of Dungeons and Dragons? Yes!!! I LOVE playing D&D. I LOVE being a Dungeon Master and creating stories for people to play as well. It is because of my love of D&D that I enjoy RPGs with character creation. Character customization is key and Dungeons & Dragons has this in abundance, more than any other game in existence. I also enjoy playing Magic: The Gathering.
On a more personal level, I am very much a family man. I am deeply and madly in love with my beautiful wife, who I married on Nov. 1st, 2013. I am a caregiver for my nephew, who came to live with us on May 3rd, 2019. He started having seizures before he came to live with us, but symptoms have increased. He has been diagnosed with an Unspecified Intellectual Disability, an Unspecified Neurocognitive Disorder, and a working diagnosis of CLN3 Batten Disease. Symptoms include Seizures, Hallucinations, Psychosis, Intense Fixations, Confusion, Memory Loss, Dementia, Agitation and Rage.
I will never forget his words when we were given the Batten Disease diagnosis... “I will be the first to survive this and they will use my stuff to heal other people too.”
So, who am I? I’m just a guy… with a plethora of interests and lots of love to share. And that’s me in a nutshell.
With sincere thanks,
Phoenix Mōsher
